This morning on the Kevin & Bean show, we once again spun the Wheel O’ Bad Animal Voices and it stopped on an American hero!
While many details of the raid that took down Osama Bin Laden are still unknown, an interesting fact was recently released. There was a dog, most likely a German Shepherd or Belgian Malinois, that was a part of the Navy Seal team. These particular breeds of dog are often used for their keen senses of smell and hearing.
We needed more details about this mission, and lucky enough for us, that’s exactly where the wheel stopped!

Amongst the 80 Navy Seals that were deployed to take down Bin Laden was a dog that was strapped to one of the Seals and lowered down by helicopter into the compound where they suspected Bin Laden to be. The dog was wearing ballistic body armor and protective that can prevent injury. These types of dogs are trained for highly specific missions such as locating booby traps and enemies.
In the dog’s training, we’re told, by the dog himself, that the Navy Seal dogs are taught to sniff out terrorists, which isn’t difficult because they smell like a combination of “ass, an old towel, couscous, mixed with a little bit of hummus, and a little Drakkar Noir cologne.” This can be smelled up to two miles away by the Navy Seal dog, or anyone for that matter!
While we read that this dog was strapped to a Navy Seal, we were told in the interview that the Navy Seal was strapped to the dog! Why does everyone always get that backward?
